世衛組織總干事譚德塞在4月1日表示，在過去5周，確診病例接近爆發性增長，幾乎所有國家和地區都報告了確診病例。

過去一周，死亡病例增長了一倍多，在未來幾天內，確診病例將超過100萬，死亡病例將超過5萬。

世衛組織表示，新冠肺炎是人類面臨的第一個冠狀病毒大流行，人們對于病毒所知有限，世衛組織致力于向世界所有國家提供建立在事實基礎上的防控指南。
